Begin with a familiar scene

A1 Russian stories for your first pages

A cat in the park, a daily routine, a first recipe: small scenes give you something concrete to follow while the Russian is still new. Read one sentence, check its English meaning and return to the Russian. You do not have to understand every form before continuing.

What A1 means here

A1 here describes the intended starting range of a supported text. It is not a promise that every word is familiar, or a course from zero. Early A1 readers may need frequent translations; established A1 readers can try a paragraph first and use Study to understand one useful pattern.

Before you begin

Know the Cyrillic letters and a few everyday words. If decoding the alphabet takes all your attention, start with the beginner’s guide. Locations, common present-tense verbs and basic word order will help; the English remains available when a form is new.

Make one useful return

Read, listen, try it yourself

Choose a short scene. After checking the meaning, describe a different place or routine with one expression from it. Try the optional Practice prompt before revealing its example; an example is a model, not a score.
